5 Month Counter-Drug Operation ‘WINTER FIX’ Results in Total of 44 Defendants Charged With Drug-Related Offenses

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE… 3 p.m., Wednesday, December 10th, 2014  Culmination of 5 Month Counter-Drug Operation ‘WINTER FIX’ Results in 46 Defendants Charged With Drug-Related Offenses Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports: At noon yesterday, December 9th, deputy sheriffs armed with arrest warrants deployed in teams in search of 17 final defendants in an operation spanning five months. The operation, dubbed ‘WINTER FIX’, was led by deputies assigned to the Community Watch Unit and targeted people involved in the unlawful trafficking and distribution of methamphetamine. Over the course of 5 months, 46 individual defendants have been or soon will be charged with drug related offense stemming from this operation. Many of the defendants have already been arrested and released on bond, and the remaining defendants’ cases will all be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution during the current Grand Jury Term. A quarter of the cases involved Trafficking in Methamphetamine (“trafficking” is the Georgia statute dealing with large amounts of drugs). Over the course of the operation, ten (10) illegally held firearms were also seized.
