Aggravated Assault Results in One Hospitalized, One Arrested, and Discovery of Indoor Marijuana Crop

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

At approximately 9:40 p.m. last night, October 21st, deputy sheriffs were dispatched to a private residence on Hall Memorial Road near Resaca in unincorporated Gordon County in response to a report of a man having been stabbed. Responding deputies found a 54 year old male who had in fact suffered a serious stab wound and who’d collapsed in the driveway. An ambulance was summoned, and the victim was transported to Gordon Hospital. He was subsequently flown to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee where he remains in serious but stable condition according to hospital officials. Deputies rapidly determined the identity of the man’s assailant and located Dennis Mitchell Young a/k/a ‘Buster’ age 36, of 184 Hall Memorial Road at a nearby apartment complex. Young was arrested without incident and taken to the county jail, and will be charged with Aggravated Assault. During the course of examining the crime scenes, deputies discovered an indoor marijuana ‘crop’ inside the mobile home near where the victim was found and is believed to reside. Approximately 20 live marijuana plants were found growing in makeshift hydrated containers beneath heat lamps in a heavily insulated room. Detectives believe the assault actually occurred at another residence a short distance away from where the victim was found on Hall Memorial Road. Deputies and detectives executed search warrants at both locations and collected numerous items of physical evidence, including the weapon they believe to have been used in the assault. Detectives also have reason to believe that copious amounts of alcohol were involved, and also that more than two persons were involved in the incident. They are actively seeking out and interviewing witnesses, and the investigation remains active. Anyone with any information regarding this event is urged to call the Sheriff’s Detective Division at 706.629,1244.
