Calhoun Man Arrested For  Aggravated Assault, Receiving Stolen Property, Terroristic Threats, After Motor Vehicle Theft and Confrontation

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

On Sunday afternoon, September 28th, deputy sheriffs were dispatched to the area of Dews Pond Road near Baxter Road in unincorporated Gordon County in response to the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, deputies met with a local man who told them that earlier that same day his employer reported the theft of a company-owned truck to the Calhoun Police. Before the deputies’ arrival, this victim had observed and recognized the stolen truck at a convenience store on Baxter Road, and had followed it to a (private) driveway and confronted the driver. According to witness statements, the driver of the stolen truck, subsequently identified as one Monte Paul Clark, Jr, age 26, of 990 North Wall Street, Calhoun, produced a firearm, made threats, and shot out a tire on the complainant’s automobile. Clark then fled the scene in the stolen truck. A ‘lookout’ was broadcast to other officers via radio. Clark was discovered a short time later at a private residence on Covington Bridge Road. Other deputy sheriffs and a state trooper from the local State Patrol post confronted Clark there, who was armed with a handgun. Clark surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. A second firearm, believed to be the one used in the shooting, was recovered a short distance away. The stolen truck was found there as well and returned to the rightful owner. Clark has been charged with: Aggravated Assault, Felon in Possession of Firearms, Receiving Stolen Property, Terroristic Threats, and several traffic related offenses. He remains in the county jail pending judicial proceedings.
