Deputies Arrest Ranger Man in Connection With Seizure of Over 50 Marijuana Plants

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

On Tuesday, June 2nd, acting on tips from concerned citizens, deputy sheriffs initiated an investigation into reports of marijuana being grown outdoors in the vicinity of Reece Road / Nickelsville Road in unincorporated Gordon County. Utilizing remote (photographic)IMG_0053 surveillance devices as well as “boots on the ground” surveillance, deputies kept a watch on the marijuana garden until Monday morning, June 8th when they arrested Jon. R. Cain, age 61, of 6982 Nickelsville Road, Ranger, Georgia. Cain was arrested without incident as he was walking among the plants carrying a pair of 5 gallon buckets of top soil. Cain told the arresting deputies the top soil was for tomato plants. A thorough search of the area on foot and with the aid of the Sheriff’s Office Air Unit helicopter revealed over 50 live marijuana plants, but no tomato plants. Cain is in jail pending bond. Sheriff’s Office records indicate that Cain was arrested for a similar offense in 2000.
