Deputy Sheriffs Apprehend Fugitive

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports;

At about 5 p.m. yesterday (Febraury 25th), deputy sheriffs located a wanted fugitive at the home of a relative on Sugar Valley Road. Randy Whitfield, age 55, of Sugar Valley, Georgia was apprehended without resistance by deputies who surprised him at the home. Deputies had been seeking to arrest Whitfield for some time on an aggravated assault charge as well as a warrant for violating parole. A Georgia Department of Community Supervision (GDCS, formerly state probation/parole) officer accompanied the deputies and participated in the investigation and arrest. Deputies recovered a stolen pistol as well as drugs in Whitfield’s possession at the time of his arrest. The aggravated assault charge stemmed from a May, 2015 incident in unincorporated Gordon County. Whitfield will now face additional charges of drug possession, theft, and weapons violations. Whitfield has an extensive arrest record, and is being held in the county jail pending parole proceedings.
