JOINT MEDIA RELEASE: CALHOUN POLICE DEPARTMENT / GORDON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE:

Five Month Investigation Into Methamphetamine Distribution & Firearms Offenses Produces Arrests, Seizures of Methamphetamine, Guns, & Assets

CHIEF OF POLICE GARRY MOSS and SHERIFF MITCH RALSTON REPORT:

On Thursday, August 27th, a five (5) month investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine and firearms related offenses culminated in the arrests of four (4) local people. A group of approximately thirty (30) federal, state, and local law enforcement officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) ‘Safe Streets Task Force’, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Georgia Department of Community Supervision (GDCS), as well as the Calhoun Police Department and the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office who’d jointly initiated the investigation, were all involved in executing a series of search warrants at locations in Calhoun and in Plainville. The investigation thus far has resulted in the arrests of four: Clifton M. Morgan, 49, of 123 Webberdale Drive, Plainville, Shane Jordon, age 43, of 104 West May Street, Calhoun, Terry Lee Jordon, age 51, and Penny Elaine Jordon, age 44, both of 117 Victory Drive, Calhoun, all of whom have been charged with methamphetamine possession and/or distribution charges. In addition to the arrests, a number of firearms, including a pistol reported to have been stolen in Tennessee, were seized. Both private residences and a business were the subjects of the warrants.

The investigation began in April after Chief Moss and Sheriff Ralston identified a number of persons in Calhoun and Plainville who were suspected of distributing significant amounts of methamphetamine in our community. Chief Moss and Sheriff Ralston, working together, designated specific resources and manpower to this project for the duration of the case.

Although arrests and seizures have been made, the investigation is continuing to produce leads, and additional arrests and seizures are expected to be forthcoming in the near future.

Sheriff Ralston said, “I’d like to praise and thank all of the officers who participated in this case. These arrests were the result of many hours of surveillance and undercover work, and the tedious process of gathering intelligence, preparing reports, affidavits, and warrants. They all did a fine job. It is always a pleasure to work alongside Chief Moss and the men and women of the Calhoun Police, and this case was no exception. Through our joint efforts, these and other defendants will soon face a jury of Gordon County citizens to answer for their actions.”
