Sheriff Warns of Telephone Scams

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Announces:

The Sheriff’s Office has received reports from citizens who have been called by persons posing as treasury agents, or IRS agents, or other officials who claim that the person receiving the call owes taxes, fines, or court fees. Some of these callers have used the name “Steve Martin” . If you receive a similar call, HANG UP IMMEDIATELY AND DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER BACK. These calls tend to originate in Pakistan and/or the Bahamas. Do not, under any circumstances, send money or checks to these callers. This is completely illegitimate, and these criminals prey on good, unsuspecting people here and elsewhere. If you wish to report this activity, you may call our Detective Division at 706.629.1244. As this crime is international, we will forward the information to the proper authorities.”
