Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

At about 8 p.m. Sunday night, September 6th, deputy sheriffs were dispatched to a an apartment complex on US Highway 41 South near Calhoun in response to a disturbance. Deputies located a  25 year old man who’d been beaten about the head and face. An ambulance was summoned to the scene as well. Deputies were able to determine the identity of the attacker, Justin Blake McCoy, age 27, of 2960 US Highway 41S, Calhoun, based upon statements and video surveillance footage. McCoy was arrested by other deputy sheriffs fleeing the scene on US Highway 41 near Executive Drive. He was apprehended without resistance and jailed for Aggravated Assault. The victim initially refused medical aid from the ambulance service, but went to Gordon Hospital later with a family member. He was subsequently treated and released. McCoy, a recent parolee who was released about 3 weeks ago, is still being held in jail.
