Sheriff Investigating Apparent Drowning of Small Child in Swimming Pool

Sheriff Mitch Ralston Reports:

At approximately 10:30 am this morning (July 15th) deputy sheriffs and other emergency personnel from Gordon County Fire/Rescue and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to a private residence on Firetower Road in the Ryo community in eastern Gordon County in response to a report of a child having been found in a swimming pool. Fire/rescue personnel and deputies arrived and determined that a four year old female child was found unresponsive in a swimming pool and that the people who’d discovered the child had gotten her out of the pool and attempted to resuscitate her. EMS personnel arrived and also attempted resuscitation, but were not successful. The child was subsequently pronounced dead at Gordon Hospital. Investigating detectives determined that the child resided at a neighboring home. The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office. Detectives assigned to the case do not believe that any foul play was involved.
