Murder Charges Filed in Dews Pond Death Investigation

This morning, May 12, autopsy results were received from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Division of Forensic Sciences (State Crime Lab) in which the state medical examiner ruled the death of Rembert D. Greeson (yesterday) a homicide. Sheriff’s Detectives have filed charges of (Felony) Murder and Aggravated assault against Steven Shane Childers, age 34, of 371 Meadowlark Lane regarding Greeson’s death. Childers had been arrested at his home without incident yesterday morning about 8:15am by deputy sheriffs for battery and suspicion of murder. Detectives have executed 4 search warrants, collecting multiple items of physical evidence yesterday and this morning, as well as interviewing a number of witnesses. Detectives believe that Childers beat and kicked Greeson near the victim’s mobile home around 10pm Tuesday night, and that alcohol may’ve been involved. Acquaintances put Greeson to bed in his home, where he expired before the next morning where he was found about 6:50am. The investigation is still ongoing and the possibility of additional charges exists. Sheriff Ralston expressed his thanks to the County Coroner’s Office and  State (GBI) Crime Laboratory for expediting the autopsy process in this case, and also to the officers involved in that the matter was swiftly resolved. The results of the investigation and charges will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
